Future of construction media

The trend towards online delivery of news, features and other information is as evident in the construction industry as it is in other sectors of the publishing world. But is the paper based medium at the end of life?

Online mediaIn the construction industry most of the weekly news is available for free and delivered to the email inbox on a regular basis if you want it. Although very welcome it does raise some serious questions that were debated quite passionately at a recent CIMCIG (Chartered Institute of Marketing Construction industry Group) / IBP (International Building Press) event entitled The Future of Construction Media.

The event, chaired by Steve Barrett; Editor of Media Week, saw 3 eminent journalists (Nick Edwards of Construction News, Stuart MacDonald of Inside Housing and Niki May Young of WAN – World Architecture News) debate the changing relationship between paper and screen in delivering content to the reader. This was balanced by the needs of the commercial sector where Ian Exall of Rockwool, Mike Webb of Corus Construction Services and Andy Cassie of marketing agency CIB.
